Dancers speak a language.  People speak a language and sometimes there are no words necessary.  Sometimes stories go beyond words at all.

With Al Blackstone’s creation of Brown Eyed Girl, a whimsical take on online dating, he won the 2011 Capezio Ace Award for Choreographic Excellence - and the opportunity to do something truly unique.

And then ... Happy We’ll Be was born.  The task of putting up a show turned into something bigger: an opportunity for the New York dance and theatre communities to come together to celebrate the art of storytelling through movement.  The goal is to make something that isn’t a musical or an evening of concert dance, but a work that draws deeply from both worlds with focus on accessibility.

Happy We’ll Be is what Al calls a “dance narrative;” a full-length work of dance theatre that uses the body and music to tell a complete story.  There is no dialogue in the 90-minute piece, but plenty of communication.  The choreography is technically demanding but always story driven and character based.  The styles range from classic theatre dance to street jazz to contemporary as the characters each pursue their own version of happiness.

In order to tell this story a group of some of the most elite, unique and compelling performers in New York City has been assembled.  Dancers from Broadway shows such as Wicked, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, In The Heights, White Christmas, West Side Story and Guys and Dolls will perform alongside performers from companies such as Cedar Lake, Shaping Sound and Jennifer Muller The Works.  The electric group of artists all have one thing in common; their passion for physical storytelling.

The show will premiere at The Roseland Ballroom on July 26th and run until the 30th.
